Antonio Rudiger has just six months left on his current contract with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona circling the Champions Leag8e winner

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has suggested he is more inclined to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge after highlighting the impact of Thomas Tuchel on his Chelsea career. Rudiger revealed that Tuchel has given him a new lease on life since the German tactician joined Chelsea earlier this year.

Rudiger had been in and out of the Chelsea squad during the reign of former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard. The 28-year-old defender confirmed that he had considered leaving the club then due to a lack of game time.

However, the Germany international has stated that he now wants to stay at the club, a testament to his increased involvement and importance to the Chelsea squad since Tuchel joined in late January.

“Yeah [I was close to leaving], the way things were going for myself but also for the team. But in the winter period I was not keen to leave, to be honest. It was more in the summer period where I wanted to leave. But Thomas Tuchel came and the rest is history. He opened a new door… he played a big role,” Rudiger told Sky Sports.

The former Roma defender also noted that he was not fazed by the transfer rumours that surrounded him and not getting in the squad under Lampard. Rudiger said he does not get shaken easily and transfer rumours and he just continues playing his game.

The Chelsea defender explained: “To be honest, it was easy [to carry on playing]. There was also a lot of noise going on when the last coach was sacked. There were a lot of negative rumours and everything and stuff like this. And I kept on doing what I’m doing… I don’t get easily shaken.”

Rudiger has been important for Chelsea this season, recently winning two penalties for the Blues in their 3-2 victory over Leeds United on Sunday. The German international has scored two goals and provided four assists so far this season.

The 28-year-old defender is in a contract stand-off with the Blues board with his current contract set to expire in June 2022. Other than Rudiger, the defensive trio of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen all have their contracts expiring in the same June 2022.
