[Notification] Lagos Demands A 5% Tax On ‘All Audio And Video’ From Content Producers

The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has issued a 30-day notice to content producers in Nigeria to register their content and body content.

The General Secretary of the board, Mr. Bamidele Balogun, made the announcement while unveiling the stage by the Performing Musicians Employers Association (PMAN) and Lafrique Promedia, tracking and generating revenue for entertainers.

“The Board will advise employees involved in the production, marketing, distribution of audio and visual products to register their products through the board’s authority within 30 days.

“Independent actors and stakeholders are also informed that from now on, all audio and video production produced and sold within Lagos State will cost 5% per item.

“However, this project will assist the Lagos State Government in formulating policy, with regard to planning and funding for the sector,” he said.

Balogun said violators of the registration law would face severe penalties by the board, adding that stakeholders must work together to achieve their goals.

“All employees and stakeholders in the entertainment sector within government are advised to adhere to this guidelines and to cooperate with the board’s authorized attorney,” he said.

Also, Mr. Obiora Osokolo, Head of Consultation, SIAO Partner, urged producers to cooperate, saying the platform would go a long way in eliminating the issues of court cases among the entertainers.

Osokolo said the plan would create an enabling environment for the national government to support the entertainment industry and improve workers’ lives adequately.

“I urge producers and others in the entertainment industry to use this opening and key on the platform, as it will benefit them,” he said.

Osokolo, however, praised the Lagos State Government for the move, describing it as a positive development aimed at the entertainment industry and stakeholders.
