Football lovers took to Twitter to share their opinion following the sack of Rohr.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that Gernot Rohr has been dismissed as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
The announcement of Rohr’s dismissal was made available to the public in a statement posted on NFF’s website on Sunday.
The statement partly reads, “The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Mr. Augustine Eguavoen, currently, its Technical Director, as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles on an interim basis.
“This is with immediate effect and follows the termination of the relationship with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, who has been in charge of the three-time African champions for the past 64 months and is Nigeria’s longest-serving manager.”
The dismissal of Rohr has brought about reactions from football-loving Nigerians on popular microblogging app, Twitter.
Rohr was not beloved by most Nigerian football fans but his dismissal just days before the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon has raised eyebrows.
Rohr was the leader of the Super Eagles for five years and four months. His dismissal and those appointed as replacements have stirred up a conversation about the Super Eagles dominating the trends on Twitter.
The dismissal of Rohr has been in the news for weeks now and very much expected.
However, it is the direction in which the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF chose to move forward that is a cause for concern for most football fans in the country based on their reaction on Twitter.
Here are the reactions to Rohr’s dismissal below
Rohr led the Super Eagles to the 2018 World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Before his dismissal, Rohr led the Super Eagles as they progressed to the final qualification stage for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
