Mbappe admits Messi, Neymar need to do more at PSG

Football industry embraces crypto as Messi helps 'fan tokens' take off

Mbappe, Messi and Neymar have scored only 16 goals and made 14 assists between them this season, a figure well below the fans expectations.

Kylian Mbappe has admitted that the superstar trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and him are not performing well enough at Paris Saint-Germain at the moment. The 22-year-old forward also stated that the attacking trio is aware they need to put in more effort for the team.

The famed ‘MNM’ trio of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe have not exactly set the pulses racing this season as many expected after the arrival of Messi during the summer. Whilst the Parisians have managed to stay atop the French Ligue 1, the trio have only 16 goals and 14 assists between them this season with Mbappe accounting for more than 50% on both metrics.

“We’re aware that we need to do more. When you have three players of that level, you can’t hide from it. We need to do the things that keep us together as a collective. We each have to do our bit,” the former Monaco youngster said on Amazon Prime.

The World Cup-winning forward also playfully denied that he is the ‘boss’ at PSG, pointing out that when there are players of the quality of Messi and Neymar at the club, he could not lay claim to that appellation.

Mbappe said: “It’s difficult. When you play with Neymar and Messi, it’s cheeky to call yourself the boss. Now, I’m in a good spell, the team is doing well. We really don’t care about who the boss is. The goal is to put all three of us in the right conditions because we’re game-changers. It’s better that way.”

The France international also failed to rule out the possibility of staying at PSG beyond next summer when his contract would have expired. Mbappe noted that though he was disappointed to have been unable to secure a move away during the last transfer window, he remains a ‘Parisian.’

“I don’t know. Today I have to take the time. It is not easy. Either way, I’ll be playing for a big club. At first I was disappointed [not to leave]. But well, I am not in the third division, I am in a club that wants to win the Champions League. I am Parisian, I have my family, I feel good, I have always said it. I just wanted to discover something else,” the 22-year-old explained.

Mbappe is at the centre of one of Europe’s most-anticipated transfer desks, with Real Madrid putting in a world-record €220m last summer for Mbappe’s signature. PSG rejected the deal in the hopes of convincing the Frenchman to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes beyond 2022.
