Mary Remmy Njoku, a Nollywood actress and film executive, has retaliated against Actors Guild of Nigeria president Emeka Rollas for his recent Big Brother Naija remark.
Remember what the politician-turned-actor wrote on Instagram? “Nollywood, to be precise! This is not a dump for evictees!!! The case is now closed.”
Njoku expressed her strong disagreement with Rollas’ details about how Nollywood had saved people previously deemed unemployable in an Instagram post shared on Monday, September 7, 2021.
“Nigeria’s No. 1 rehabilitation center is Nollywood. She is, in fact, a dumping ground for society’s outcasts. An employer who hires the unemployed. All those who have lost their way will find a safe haven here. A mother to the befuddled and perplexed. She doesn’t pass judgment “Njoku penned the piece.
“When we first joined Nollywood, many of us were unemployed. There are no certificates or degrees. Many people would have committed suicide as a result of stigmatization and discrimination if it hadn’t been for Nollywood.”
Rolla’s remark drew a rebuke from actor Bolanle Ninalowo, who accused him of discrimination.
