Black Panther: Wakanda Forever continues filming

Following a nearly two-month hiatus, the cast and crew of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are gearing up to begin shooting on the Marvel mega-sequel next week.

The story, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, was verified today by a source close to the issue. Marvel did not respond. Letitia Wright was injured during an overnight shoot in Boston in August; the actress was harmed in an incident involving a stunt gear. When the production delay was announced in November, Marvel executives also acknowledged that the actress’ injuries were more serious than originally anticipated.

“What we had initially thought were minor injuries turned out to be much more serious with Letitia suffering a critical shoulder fracture and a concussion with severe side effects,” Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Nate Moore of Marvel Studios stated in a statement.

“It’s been a difficult process, and Letitia has been recuperating at home with the help of her physicians and family.

“We’ve altered our production schedule to allow her the necessary time to recuperate, but there’s only so much we can accomplish without Shuri!

“We also want to thank Letitia for everything she’s doing to get back to the set – we know how much she loves this role, how tough it’s been for her to be away, and how hard she’s working to recover as quickly as she safely can.” Wright’s representative told BBC News

So far, Wakanda Forever has walked a rough journey. Chadwick Boseman, the Black Panther lead, died of colon cancer in August 2020, forcing Marvel and the producers to reimagine the project without the adored actor. Wright, who rose to prominence in 2018 as Shuri, the sister of Black Panther T’Challa, was promoted to the starring role in the sequel. It’s unclear whether this heightened status will carry over into future films or Disney+ shows.

It’s commonly anticipated that Wright’s character Shuri would play a larger part in the sequel, and the message emphasizes that there’s only so much filming that can be done without one of the film’s stars. The most anticipated film of 2022 is Wakanda Forever.
